Aboriginal education

At our school, we are dedicated to recognising, respecting and celebrating Aboriginal cultures, histories and languages. We collaborate with students, families and the broader community to strengthen positive relationships and provide learning opportunities that acknowledge and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Aboriginal perspectives are meaningfully incorporated across all areas of the curriculum, ensuring every student can engage with and appreciate the rich histories, cultures and contributions of First Nations Australians. Through these experiences, we aim to build understanding, encourage respect and develop a deeper appreciation of Australia’s First Nations heritage.

Cultural Groups

Our Cultural Groups provide students with opportunities to explore their Personalised Learning Pathways Goals (PLP’s) as well as identity, connect with others, and express themselves through activities such as music, dance, weaving, art and storytelling. These sessions are guided by our AEO, staff and community members, who share their knowledge and support students in developing a deeper understanding of culture.

Through participation, students strengthen their sense of identity, build connections with their community, and engage in meaningful learning about Country and culture.

Yarn Ups

Each semester we host Yarn Ups, which are safe and respectful spaces where Aboriginal students and their families can share their stories, experiences and ideas with staff.

These gatherings help us listen carefully, build trusting relationships, and ensure that the voices of our students and families are central to our decision-making and school practices.

Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs)

The development of Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs) is guided by the importance of hearing and valuing the voices of Aboriginal students and families. Through strong relationships, collaboration and partnerships between schools, staff and families, we aim to support Aboriginal students in achieving their academic and cultural goals that have been set to reach their full educational potential.
